Celebrating International Women’s Day at Unity Place: Stories of Resilience, Leadership, and Culinary Excellence

Unity Place proudly celebrates International Women’s Day by highlighting four women who exemplify resilience, leadership, and innovation in their respective fields. These stories reflect this year’s theme, #AccelerateAction, showcasing the impact of passion and determination in breaking barriers.

Dipna Anand: Culinary Heritage and Innovation

Dipna Anand is the award-winning celebrity chef behind her eponymous restaurant Dipna Anand Kitchen & Bar at Unity Place.

Born into a family of chefs and restaurateurs, her passion for hospitality led her to pursue a degree in Catering and Hospitality. Dipna emphasises the importance of financial literacy in building a rewarding career and acknowledges challenges in the industry. Motivated by her parents' support, she advises aspiring professionals to work from the heart, maintain humility, and embrace the rewarding nature of the hospitality sector.

Jessica Memon: Amplifying Voices in the Media Industry

Jessica Memon, CEO & Founder of Asian Community Radio, operates from co working space x+why at Unity Place, and is a pioneering force in broadcasting. Inspired by her mother’s courage to pursue education despite early challenges, Jessica defied societal norms to follow her passion for radio.

In an industry where women seldom reach leadership positions, she emphasises the importance of representation: “Women feel imposter syndrome because they don’t see enough female leaders at the top.” Jessica advocates for empowering young women with the tools to succeed, advising them to enjoy their work and commit wholeheartedly.

Gloria Bazzocchi: Leading with Passion in Hospitality

Head Pastry Chef at Baker’s Room, Gloria Bazzocchi’s journey into hospitality was inspired by her grandmother. She highlights the challenges faced by women in hospitality, a typically male-dominated industry. “Women can be underestimated, and it can be tough to get recognition,” she says. However, by demonstrating her expertise and standing firm in her ambitions, she has built a successful career, and strives to support young women in the industry including Chloe and Chardonnay, two female apprentices excelling at Unity Place.

Gloria advocates for structured pathways to leadership for women in hospitality, ensuring that talent is nurtured and supported. “Confidence, resilience, and self-advocacy are key,” she advises. “And above all, pursue your passion without regrets.

Maisie Stanford: Navigating Marketing with Confidence

Maisie Stanford, Senior Marketing and Communications Executive at Unity Place, has built her career ensuring women’s voices are heard in corporate spaces. Inspired by a female mentor who balanced a demanding career with raising foster siblings, Maisie learned that women can achieve extraordinary things when supported.

She recognises the challenges of being the only woman in the room, where assertiveness can be misinterpreted, and overcomes them by backing up ideas with data and fostering inclusivity. “The world is changing, and being a woman is powerful,” she says. “Believe in yourself, own your space, and trust that your perspective is valuable.”
