Final 2024 arts bursary awarded to an aspiring young animator

Offset Projects and MK Community Foundation are delighted to announce Athena Azizi as the recipient of the final 2024 arts bursary.

Athena is an illustrator and aspiring animator who’s currently studying A Levels at Shenley Brook End School. Originally from Malaysia she says that being creative has always been a way that she has sought and found community, having lived in and experienced many different countries and cultures over the years.

In Milton Keynes Athena has thrown herself into the creative community, contributing to the

City of Codes and Light Festival (2023), MKIAC’s comic zine Common Thread (2024-2025)

and volunteering her time to support younger students to learn about the arts.

Her long-term goals include going to university to study animation and giving back to the

community in Milton Keynes by delivering her own workshops to inspire the youth of the

city to consider a creative pathway.

Like many others I grew up watching animated shows and films. My fascination with the

process behind these shows, and the artists who have lovingly constructed these grandiose

worlds, inspired me to learn 2D animation. My goal for the future is to get a degree in

animation, jump into the industry, and work on stories that truly embrace the art of creative

storytelling. This bursary will support me to continue my creative journey.
