Mayor Of Olney Reaches Out To Shop Keepers For 'Accessibility For All'

Mayor of Olney Debbie Whitworth has praised local shops for their efforts in making Olney accessible for all but still asks for shops to do more if they can, to help make Olney shops fully accessible for visitors.

Debbie said, ''Shout out to Age UK who listened when I approached them recently on behalf of residents’ concerns regarding access to the store for the disabled

The old yellow plastic ramp wasn’t suited for many of the wheelchairs out there now, plus it had become somewhat worn

After my visit staff immediately flagged up with Age UK Head Office and as you can see in the attached photo they have a new super sturdy metal ramp … which I can vouch for as being safe having tested it out today

Well done ladies at Age UK.

After having reached out to shopkeepers a few years ago Gabriella of Locander Gabriella’s and the Olney Pancake Parlour rose to the call .. by measuring up and sorted ramps for their premises.   What a huge difference it has made for all those reliant on their wheelchair .. to be able to access a shop, a cafe or restaurant with ease instead of passing by

Rassos on the Market Place have spoken with me and they are very keen to help out with a ramp .. currently awaiting the correct type

Of course it’s not possible everywhere to make adaptations on a greater scale some being listed buildings and those premises with steps sometimes can simply be too high to facilitate a ramp .. but, there are a great many that could make access possible

So I am reaching out once again to our lovely shop keepers and independent retailers to please kindly consider access and together let's make Olney accessible for 'ALL'.''
