MÓTUS Dance, in collaboration with MK Act, is proud to announce “I Have a Bruise”, a compelling multi-sensory dance performance by Laura Kenyon’s WomanEwer. The performance event will take place on Saturday, 8 March 2025 at MK Gallery. Admission is free, but registration is essential.

“I Have a Bruise” is a profound live performance rooted in real-life narratives, featuring five professional female dancers who are survivors of sexual abuse. The piece delves into sensitive themes, offering a candid exploration of trauma while celebrating womanhood, resilience, and empowerment. It serves as a powerful advocacy for women to reclaim their voices.

Accompanying the performance is an art exhibition that reflects the themes of the piece. The exhibition showcases paintings, collages, ceramics, and hanging mobiles by Melanie Kenyon, complemented by soundscapes and digital forms by Laura Kenyon. This multi-sensory experience leaves a lasting impression, inviting the audience to engage and construct their own narratives.

Sue Burke, Chief Executive Officer of MK Act, said "Survivors’ voices deserve to be heard, and ‘I Have a Bruise’ provides a powerful platform to share their stories through movement and art. At MK Act, we’ve spent 50 years supporting those affected by domestic abuse, and we believe that raising awareness through performances like this is vital in fostering understanding and change."

Cameron Ball, Artistic Director of MÓTUS Dance, emphasised the significance of the performance:

"It is vital that we create space for different stories to be told, and MÓTUS Dance is proud to centre womens’ experiences on International Women's Day. “I Have a Bruise” sheds light on voices that are often unheard, and through movement and art, we hope to foster understanding, reflection, and empowerment."

“I Have a Bruise” is presented thanks to support from MK Community Foundation. Note that due there are sensitive, adult themes, and ages are restricted to 16+.
