Not long to go now until schools are back. Here in Olney, the students are excited because on Friday 6th September, many will be attending the launch of a new after school club for students yrs 7-11
Cllr Debbie Whitworth tells more! ''After I received a great many calls and emails from parents concerned about their children’s mental health and the need for a safe space to chill with others, alongside having somewhere that wasn’t all sport orientated, on behalf of OTC, myself and the town clerk got to work to see what could be done.
After several months of organising and meetings including a couple with 6th form co ordinator for Ousedale and a group of children ( who were invited to council chamber to get them to tell us ‘what they wanted’
A competition later got underway to get the kids to design the logo and a name for it ( after all it’s their club)
I reached out to MIND BLMK for any support they could give to Olney in regards to helping teenagers with their mental health.
OTC are pleased to say that an outreach worker will be on site at the club, this is fantastic as the students will have the opportunity to offload to someone qualified ( if they so choose to .. no pressure)
This is a reminder to parents and carers of children in years 7-11 to let your children know and remind them the launch is on FRIDAY 6th SEPT ..
It’s their club which they named
The Hangout Hub and will be open from 5.30-7.30pm every Friday
See full article on how it was formed in the Phonebox Magazine.. big thank you to Orchard Press who worked on the kids’ designs and put the top 3 winning entries I’d judged at the Olney Campus that were so exceptionally brilliant it was decided to merge the three to form the logo brand
Look forward to seeing you all there for the grand launch of this fab ‘Hangout Hub’ for the youngsters in our community
Cllr Debbie Whitworth''
