This afternoon, members of the Milton Keynes Palestine Solidarity Campaign will gather outside the constituency office of Emily Darlington, the recently elected MP for Central Milton Keynes, in a call to action for the Labour Party.
The demonstration, set for 2:30 p.m. on Friday, November 8, will demand a full suspension of all UK arms sales to Israel and urge the Starmer government to press the newly elected U.S. President Donald Trump to end support for the Netanyahu administration's onslaught in the region.
This demonstration follows recent developments intensifying public concern over the UK’s role in the conflict. Last week, newly elected MP, Emily Darlington, shared an Instagram photo (1) of herself visiting RAF Valley in Anglesey, 235 miles away from MK, and the Defence Academy in Shrivenham, while dressed in military attire. The previous day, Declassified UK reported (2) that the RAF has been transporting F-35 aircraft parts to Israel, potentially facilitating its ongoing military actions in Gaza.
Ben Jamal, Director Palestine Solidarity campaign stated yesterday:
"Over the past few days and weeks we have seen what we all thought impossible - that Israel has intensified its assault on Jabalia camp and the North of Gaza, embarking on an open project of liquidation, ethnic cleansing and erasure that the UN has said places every one of the hundreds of thousands of people still in the North of Gaza at risk of being killed.None of this has ended the complicity of our political leaders. Indeed in the last few weeks both David Lammy and Keir Starmer have made clear they will not use the term genocide when the victims are Palestinians." (3)
"History will condemn the Starmers and the Lammys for their support for this evil barbarism. History will also judge all of us for what we did in this darkest moment of the struggle
The protest comes as new polling data (4) shows that public opinion is strongly supportive of an immediate and unconditional ceasefire, with 73% of Britons in favour. Local residents in Milton Keynes have consistently shown their support for the Palestinian cause, attending solidarity events in all weather conditions throughout the year and sending countless letters to their MPs.
A supporter, Kate stated: “The US election results this week make it even more urgent that we make our feelings known to our locally elected leaders. Now, more than ever, action on ending the occupation and what we view as genocide needs to start with them. This is a hugely important issue for residents, and our local MPs have a mandate to take serious action on our behalf.”
The Milton Keynes Palestine Solidarity Campaign urges all those who stand for peace and human rights to join in this demonstration and add their voices to the call for an end to the UK’s complicity in the genocide.
